European Master Classes a success

Following the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Oral Design Group in Zurich late last year, German Master Dental Technician and Oral Design's youngest member, Perth-based Sascha Hein, took the opportunity to "spread the love".

First up, he visited his old alma mater, the Master School in Freiburg, Germany to deliver a Metal Ceramic Course and then to the UK for a privately organised Master Course on Creation Classic in London.

During his annual lecture at the Master School Freiburg, he offered in-depth knowledge about the physical constitution of natural teeth vs. dental ceramic. This was followed by practical hands-on demonstrations of two upper centrals and a 3-unit posterior bridge that students had three days to complete. The program was designed to convey the necessary theoretical knowledge as well as to improve the students' manual skills to prepare them for the toughest practical exam known in dental technology: the German Master Dental Technician Exam! This course was jointly sponsored by Willi Geller Creation and Amman Girrbach.

A few days later, Mr Hein "hopped" across The Channel for a Two Day Master Class on Creation Classic which was held at John Won's laboratory at Rickmansworth, just outside London in Hertfordshire. The course, which was sponsored by Metalordental, the UK distributor of Creation, involved the completion of two upper centrals based on a previous patient case of Sascha's using Creation Classic on two precious alloy copings.

"Johny" Won, who's also an Oral Design member, personally took care of the catering, demonstrating his outstanding culinary skills. It quickly became clear that the world had lost a gifted chef to dental technology! The course program, which attracted technicians from Japan, France, England and Scotland, was well attended despite the £500 tuition fee. The theoretical content as well as the many practical skills were well received and another invitation was extended for a return visit to the U.K. next year.
