Flexibility is important for me, and I am sure it is for you too. I also like how technology is advancing and how it can help me in my busy practice. I recently attended a lecture which discussed how investment in new scanner technology can help with business efficiencies of Dental Laboratories and help make them more cost and quality competitive with the international competition facing them. Safe to say I almost went out and brought one myself, I was so impressed on the merits of such an investment! And I'm a prosthetist!?
Needless to say I have invested in equipment to allow me run my business more effectively. Whether it's in the equipment I use to help me produce a higher quality product or in software to help me run my business more effectively or to aid me in my compliance with the new professional standards.
For my office administration Software I use BaseDiary. It has the flexibility to keep up with new technologies and for me to access it anywhere I may be, without limiting access for my staff or costing me thousands of dollars in networking. With BaseDiary I can make house calls, take appointments or view patient files when I am out of the office. Recently you may have noticed that a small, little known company called Apple has released a product called the "iPad". This is a great little computer. It's compact, easy to use and extremely portable. The good news for Labs or Clinics who run BaseDiary means they already have the flexibility in their practices to use iPad right now. No need for any expensive upgrades or plugins. It is automatically compatible. I have had the benefit of using the iPad in my practice and I have found its many advantages very beneficial. Something I found a real pleasure is that when I turn the iPad on, it is instantly on. No long booting up sequence like you have with a laptop or PC. This means when I turn it on I am straight into using it, no waiting time. It has a nice big screen, and scrolling is as easy as flicking you finger across the screen. As technicians we are hands on people. This is how the iPad works, finger touch controls. You can also use it in any orientation you like, portrait or landscape, and it automatically adjusts. Typing is easy with the large on screen keyboard that has effectively done away with the clutter of excess keys you have with normal keyboards. If you like the feel of a normal keyboard Apple have keyboards that can link wirelessly to the iPad, so you can have the benefit of both worlds.
In a world that is constantly evolving and improving it's good to see technology options that can help me in my practice, like the iPad. And it is good to know that as technology advances my office management software is flexible enough to keep up with these changes without the need for me to shell out hundreds of dollars to do so.
